41 was fun, will 42 be poo?

2008-09-14, 9:22 p.m.
How can I possibly be 42? Thats just silly. However, the shitloads of birthday cards and (slightly smaller) amount of presents in shiny paper with bows on, tells me otherwise.

Normally I would go into a great big ramble about my birthday and all that kind of stuff but Im on a slightly reduced time-budget as L is in the shower and threatening me with all kinds of depravity which, frankly, takes precedent over you lot and your necessity to know what Ive been up to! Sorry and all that youre lovely people.well, except YOU.but Im choosing enthusiastic shagging as a means to burn off the box of chocolates I ate for breakfast this morning and so, in the interest of brevity:

Number of minutes I have, in which to finish this: 20 should allow enough time for L to have a shave and a shower and to admire himself in the mirror in a variety of James Bondian poses.

Mates who came to help me yesterday morning: 1 and it was Anne Marie. Shes a jolly good helper. I can just say make some vinaigrette, please dear and she does it, without me having to find a recipe or stand over her or answer is this right? every five seconds. I have some lovely, highly educated, sentient friends whos offers of help on social occasions stretch only as far as being allowed to clean the lavvy. So, Yay for Anne-Marie The Competent!

Stuff that got made: LOADS including

Balloons tree 1

Floral table arrangements 2 (yes, yes, I KNOW theres only one in the picture!)

Bread 2 loaves. An ordinary, loaf-shaped one, and this one , which puts me in mind of the Harvest Festivals of old, where some smug kid whos dad worked at Manor Bakeries would turn up with a loaf shaped like a giant sheaf of wheat. You just didnt want to be stood in the processional queue behind him with your tin of fruit cocktail and your Campbells Meatballs, thats fersure.

It was a fairly small and select gathering the beginning of September is a good time to go on holiday and that counted out at least four couples whowould normally pitch up when theuy know were providing food and drink, but hey, we did our thing:

Number of comments about how cozy the Firepit was: Eleventy Bazillion. Personally, I think the clue to the warmness of a feature like a firepit is possibly in the name! Heres BadFriend and Liz, being cozy

Photobucket

Number of Drumming masterclasses taking place in the evening: 2. The first one for the big drummers, in which your heroine discovers a more flared skirt might have been an idea if one is going to be expected to grip something between ones thighs. Just a tip that actually goes for pretty much anything. If theres thigh-gripping to be going on, a bare thigh is best

BadFriend and L discovered how very difficult it is to share a set of shiny bongos when theyre both wearing jeans. Those chaps in the audience who get off on the thought of middle aged mummies in girl-on-girl action, had all wet themselves at this point as the girls struggled to find the right shared-thigh-gripping-action.

Guitars got played too. Not sure why Lee looks so pissed off and L isnt actually playing at all cos they both played all night and were totally brilliant

Number of quails eggs that got juggled: 3. I think the rest got eaten and I was glad L had spent the time to track down some celery salt for dipping. At 2.75 a box, they really couldnt go unsalted, could they! Bad Friend juggled much better than this pic would attest but I was laughing so hard I couldnt hold the camera.

Number of girlfriends who puked in the shrubbery and had to go home early: 1. Poor Scary. She drank a bucketload of redwine and then stupidly accepted a large glass of neat vodka from me, just because it had a guitar shaped piece of lime juice ice in it. That left Anne Marie to hold the camera, and the other girls to wave their bingo wings about:

Oh look! The OAPs from Fame!

Oooh, BTW, the Singstar thingy raised something like 2056, so heres a pic of Treac and Jooj, singing Complicated and Better Get This Party Started, respectively.
